Casino Affiliate Convention 2006 - Some Controversy, Some Fears, But the Show Goes On

The 2006 Casino Affiliate Convention (CAC) is being held at the Stardust Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Sept. 14th and 15th. The annual CAC event concentrates on global marketing and advertising for the online gaming industry. The convention is attended by the largest internet gaming owners in the industry. The CAC also boasts the largest congregation of internet gaming affiliates in the world as well as attracting scores of marketing companies and industry executives.

This year's event has been overshadowed by the recent high profile arrests of David Carruthers of BetonSports and the chairman of Sportingbet Peter Dicks. The two men worked for online sports betting companies that received a major portion of their revenue from U.S. sports gamblers. Both were arrested and charged with illegal online gambling.

Current industry speculation is that the U.S. Department of Justice is only prosecuting companies and individuals involved in online sports betting, but it has shaken the foundations of the online gambling community. Seven major sponsors have recently cancelled their appearances at the CAC event, including Roxy Affiliates, Referback, Wagershare, CPays, Casino Blasters, Brightshare and Poker Affiliates.

Despite these concerns the convention is proceeding as scheduled and is even expecting a record turnout this year. A registration pass for both days of the event is $575 and includes access to the Casino Affiliate Convention exhibit hall at the Stardust Resort and Casino, all Casino Affiliate Convention seminars, and all official social events. Lunch and snacks are provided for both days of the event.

Marc Lesnick created even more controversy in a post he made at CAP, the industry's leading message board for affiliate discussion, when he made comments regarding separating the men from the boys and that some of the people who aren't coming are "sissies". You can read that thread here. (Lesnick's comments are in post #9. Notice the furor generated by this, in particular from some of the people in the industry like Riccardo at Casinoblasters, who seldom participates in forum discussions.)
